Since 2011 is quickly nearing its end, I’d like to tell you that the Great Purge of 2011 is also coming to a successful close. Not exactly.
I have wanted to clear my home of clutter and reorganize it for a long time. I begin one room, get distracted, begin again, get distracted (the initial distraction is usually my stomach telling me to book it to the kitchen for a snack. You will soon see that my stomach is the boss), start another area, get distracted. So I finally began the Great Purge last week. And I purged…the coat closet. Hey, that’s a start, right?
And because I said this blog was birthed in large part to encourage accountability and self-discipline, I am going to document Le Purge (la?) beginning with the silly coat closet. I can’t believe I’m doing this, but here are the before and after shots. It’s bad. Don’t think for a second I don’t know that.
I don’t know how it got like that. Okay, it got like that because we toss stuff in there and slam the door shut. That’s how that happens.
Funny how clearing out that little space (well, it goes farther back to the right…I couldn’t show it. It was too scary) was such a relief and motivated me to get started on other areas. Next up, my bedroom closet. I can’t even promise a before picture. Mainly because I can barely get into it now. I keep telling myself that when the house is organized and clear of clutter my mind shall be, too. Onward!
Note: A wonderful blog called Money Saving Mom has given me much-needed encouragement and a kick in the pants with regard to accountability and self-discipline. If you’re feeling a need for some inspiration or great advice when it comes to your discipline, I’d suggest checking out her series 21 Days to a More Discipline Life. She is positive and practical–I appreciate her straightforward, honest, and judgment-free approach in reaching out to her readers.
