Simple Valentine Treats

Cozycakes Cottage: Valentine's Rice Krispies

Munchie had a Valentine’s playdate this week and we made a couple treats to tote along with us.

I didn’t have a ton of time to dedicate to elaborate and fancy schmancy treats.  These fit the bill perfectly.

Though not really recipes, I thought I’d share how to make these since you might be in the market for an easy Valentine treat.  Enjoy!

For the Rice Krispie Hearts:  Prepare Rice Krispies according to cereal box or marshmallow bag directions.  Using a buttered or greased rubber spatula, spread and press down in a lightly greased large sheet pan/cookie sheet.  Let sit for an hour or so to harden a bit.  Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out treats.  Melt about a cup of white chocolate chips (I simply melted them in the microwave oven).  Stir until smooth.  Spread a bit on one side of each heart and add a few cute Valentine-themed sprinkles.

For the Pink Frosted Heart Cupcakes:  Bake up a batch of your favorite cupcakes.  Let cool completely.  Using a knife (I just used a sharp Henckels steak knife) cut off the top of the cupcakes (not too thick, but not too thin or it’ll fall apart).  Using a small heart cookie cutter, cut out hearts from the top of each cupcake top.  Spread pink frosting (I use store-bought frosting when I’m short on time and add 2 drops of red food coloring to it) on each cupcake and place the cupcake top back on.  Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
