4 Weeks to a More Organized Home: Day 9 {& My Progress}

Whew!  Still going strong on the challenge even though I had to stop yesterday afternoon when a headache hit me hard and knocked me down.  But a good night’s rest helped a lot and I managed to catch up today.  Here are a few pictures of my progress. DSC_1220 baseboards

My Munchie helped me out a ton on the door handles and baseboards.  The extra grooves in our baseboards, though I like the looks of them, are not my friend when it comes to keeping them spick and span.  Thank goodness I had a helper!

And here’s a picture of a few of the items I’m donating/tossing/recycling.  This may be my favorite part of the challenge:  decluttering!

A sock with no mate, another pair of earrings and a necklace, a few of Munchie’s trinket toys she said she doesn’t need, 2 pairs of shoes, a child’s handkerchief, and a ripped tote (we have 3 of these in the house).  I tossed much more than pictured so I assure you things are leaving this house daily.  Ah.  Feels great!

Here’s today’s assignment:

Day 9 Assignment

{from Crystal of Money Saving Mom}

::Get dressed in something that makes you feel great {there’s something about dressing in clothes that make you feel great that just gives you more energy and zest for life!}

::Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, refer to your list of weekly goals, and make a list of no more than 5-7 specific things you want to accomplish today.

::Complete your morning routine {if you don’t have a morning routine, take some time to create one today! Read my How to Develop a Routine That Works–And Stick With It series for step-by-step help.}

::Set the timer for 15 minutes and do a quick-clean of your bathroom. Need specific directions? Read this article on How to Clean Your Bathroom in 15 Minutes.

::Clean your light switch plates. You can use a damp rag with a little disinfectant on it or a cleaning wipe. If you have younger children, they’d probably enjoy joining you in tackling this project!

::Find 7 items to get rid of today. Throw them out, stick them in a donate or garage sale box, give them to a friend who can use them, or list them on Craigslist or eBay.

Don’t forget to comment and let me know how you’re doing.  I’ll be back with an update and pictures of my progress later.  Good luck!

  1. Love this challenge. Everyone needs support and help in organizing and decluttering…but can I mention child labour laws ? Just kidding 😉

  2. Great looking skirting boards (base boards I think you call them). I got sidetracked today and yesterday so only half done assignments but at least other stuff got done instead. Keep up the good work!

    1. I like “skirting boards” better than baseboards (sometimes people call them crown moulding, but I only call the moulding around the ceiling crown moulding). 🙂 Any progress is progress! Good work, Helen! I’m so happy to be doing this along with you. ~D

      1. Thank you, Danielle. It does make housework more fun!

        Can’t thinking if the word we use for ceiling moulding here – I need some to complete my dining room ceiling but that’s one of those jobs that will stay on the back burner for a long time 😉

I love your comments and read them all.
